DAGGITT CEMETERY TOUR
Cemeteries are wonderful story tellers – they hold the sagas of families and their histories, told through the stones that mark the graves. Come and hear interesting stories from the Daggitt Cemetery on Lake-Cook Road, an early Protestant pioneer cemetery, home to the last resting place for many of Glencoe’s earliest farmers.
The Glencoe Historical Society will hold a family-friendly walking tour of the Daggitt Cemetery on Sunday, September 28, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. The Cemetery is located on Lake-Cook Road between Green Bay and Sheridan Roads in Highland Park, near the Braeside railroad station where parking is available.
Hear the fascinating facts about:
-
-
- Robert Daggitt, who founded the Cemetery.
- Glencoe’s first German and English settlers.
- Cemetery symbolism, from the meaning of broken tree graves and Heaven-pointing hands to birds as grave ornaments.
-
Guides at the Daggitt Cemetery will provide information about the history of the land, the pioneers and their churches. A scavenger hunt will be offered for children over the age of 8. An area adjacent to the Cemetery, Founders Park, is available for a picnic before or after the tour. No food is allowed in the Cemetery.
